Welcome to the May edition of the UNSW Queer Collective newsletter! As we approach the start of (yet another) term, we want to take a moment to reflect on the events, discussions, and achievements that have shaped our vibrant queer community. Let's dive into the updates and upcoming events for the month ahead.

Term 2 Meetings

As in previous terms, we'll be running weekly meetings throughout the term (with the exception of Week 6). This term, meetings will be run on Wednesdays at 3:30pm. We will be maintaining the hybrid model, and the in-person component will be in the Queer Space.

📅
If you'd like to receive reminders for this, consider subscribing to our calendar.

Welcome Week

In week 1, we've got some exciting new events and initiatives for you:

Queer Collective Stall

We're running a stall on Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 1, in partnership with the UNSW Wellness Warriors and Arc EDI. We've got a bunch of free stuff for you to do, and we're always happy to see new (and old) faces, so come say hi!

Location is to be confirmed, keep an eye on our Socials 😉

Welcome to Pride - QC x PGC

On the first day of Pride Month, we're gathering a panel of UNSW staff and postgrads, to share their experiences being queer at the university, as well as insights into the future of the queer community in academia and the workplace.

We're also holding an open networking session to get to know your peers better (Free food & drinks are provided).

This event is open to ALL current students, HDR researchers, post-grad coursework students and researchers, and UNSW staff.

This event is hybrid, we will be providing a link for online attendance to everyone who registers for the event the night before.

Gender Neutral Bathrooms

UNSW Estate Management has asked us to recommend locations for the initial gender-neutral bathroom rollout. You can have your say by filling out the poll here.

For those who aren't familiar with this campaign:

The UNSW Queer Collective is organising the rollout of gender-neutral bathrooms across UNSW campuses in Sydney. We believe that the availability of bathrooms is essential to our vision of equity for queer students both on and off campus, and that gender neutral bathrooms provide an important recognition of queer students from the university.

For more information, you should check out our dedicated page at https://unsw.lgbt/bathrooms.

That's it for now, but look forward to the June newsletter as we'll be introducing the rest of this term's exciting events!
