Projects
Gender Neutral Bathrooms
In our last newsletter, we asked for your feedback on where you think the gender-neutral bathroom rollout should start at Kensington campus. We've taken this feedback to the university, who are now looking into the details of this pilot program.
New Queer Space
UNSW Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) has agreed that the current location of the Queer Space isn't accessible or friendly to queer students, and is putting together a list of potential new homes for the Queer Collective at Kensington. Once this list is complete, we will be visually inspecting these locations, and running a Collective vote on which option is the most suitable for us to move into.
SRC Crisis Spaces
We are working with the UNSW Education Collective, Welfare Collective, and Students with Disabilities Collective to develop a framework for UNSW to provide and maintain short-term (i.e. less than 10 day) crisis accommodation, with a focus on safety and accessibility to students. As University governance is a slow-moving process, we are cautious about providing any sort of timeframe for this project.
Free Period Products in Campus Bathrooms
A staple of many workplaces nowadays, the SRC is working with UNSW EDI to provide free period products in bathrooms across campus. This program is being piloted in 10 "high usage" bathrooms (i.e. areas near the libraries, Quad, etc.), and we have ensured that at this project is inclusive of trans men and non-binary people, including piloting the project in male and accessible bathrooms.
Thatโs it for now. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!
